Safety for the LGBTQ Community, with guest Toni Maviki.

Ms. Toni Maviki was born in Boston and has resided most of her life in Danbury, New Hampshire, where she serves as the chairwoman for the zoning board of appeals. Toni is currently employed as a Security Assistant for the VA Police in White River Junction Vermont.  She is also the EEO Special Emphasis Program Manager for LGBT interests at the VA and serves on the Women Veterans Task Force.

Ms. Maviki attended NHTI as a criminal justice major and has served in a variety of capacities in law enforcement for many years.  She continues to train officers on diversity issues, particularly LGBT interests.  She is a member of G.O.A.L  New England (Gay Officers Action League)  and has presented diversity training for the Harvard, Cambridge and MIT police departments  as well as the Massachusetts Police Academy in Springfield, MA.  She has also presented LGBT training for church groups and youth organizations.

Toni's background is as varied as the diversity program she teaches.   She is a proud Trans Woman who has served in the military and on a number of law enforcement departments.  She owned two trucking companies and a towing and salvage operation.  She is an enthusiastic advocate for LGBT rights - especially for those members of the  transsexual community.  Her passion for public service and education has inspired her to develop a training program to help the public better understand  and comfortably interact with members of the transgender community.

Afternoon Tea at the CGSE is a monthly program providing the Dartmouth community an opportunity to engage in dialogue and discussion about gender-related topics over tea.  Through examples in literature, film, guest speakers, and other media, Afternoon Tea seeks to create a safe and inviting space for students, staff, and faculty to explore ideas around gender, identity and society. Light snacks and refreshments are provided.
