Objectives – Participants will be able to:

1. Demonstrate how cognitive behavioral therapies can be administered confidentially and autonomously
2. Review results from trials of computer-based depression treatment
3. Show an implementation of computer-based therapy applicable for busy professionals

Jay C. Buckey, Jr., MD received his MD at Cornell University Medical College in Ithaca, NY in 1981.  He completed his internship in Internal Medicine in 1982 at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical College and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY.  In 1984 he completed his Research Fellow/NASA Space Biology Fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, in Dallas, TX, and completed his Residency in Medicine in 1996 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.  Dr. Buckey is currently a Professor of Medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and an Adjunct Professor of Engineering at the Thayer School. He has been involved in the development of computer-based psychological training and treatment programs for over 10 years in collaboration with Mark Hegel, PhD Raphael Rose, PhD, James Cartreine, PhD and others. He initiated the initial computer-based psychological training and treatment project in collaboration with the Interactive Media Lab at Dartmouth, and he has been a co-investigator on 3 peer-reviewed projects funded by the National Space Biomedical Research Institute to develop a suite of computer-based psychological training and treatment programs for astronauts.
 
Dr. Buckey is an expert on space medicine, and authored the book, Space Physiology, from Oxford University Press. He flew in space on the STS-90 Neurolab mission.
