Best known for his provocative performances, Owens is a conceptual artist who makes work in performance, video, photography, and sound.  Often requiring audience members to engage with him, Owens's work explores the often unspoken contract between the audience and the performer and the use of the body as a medium and mode of communication.

Owens will perform a selection from his Anthology project, based on scores he collected from 26 African-American artists, first presented in 2011 and 2012 as part of his solo show at MoMA/PS1.  Extended three times, this exhibition was one of the longest running at this museum.  In Fall 2013 Owens was featured in Performa 13, the Performance Biennial presented by RoseLee Goldberg.  He appeared at Middlebury College in March 2014 as part of Performance Now and has a solo exhibition opening at Cornerhouse in Manchester, England opening in May 2014.
