In this two-day workshop, we will explore the beautifully flourished hand of Spencerian script. Some of us are already familiar with this hand, as it was the foundation of the less ornate Palmer Method script taught in most American schools in the 20th century. Spencerian, developed in the mid-19th century by P.R. Spencer, is considered to be the first American calligraphic hand and was central to the golden age of ornamental penmanship (c. 1850–1925.) Students will work with an oblique pen holder, pointed pen nib, ink and guideline papers. All supplies will be provided. Bring in your favorite quote!
