Title: "The Giving Thesis: Collisional Plasma Turbulence in Space and Its Offshoots."
Abstract: Over 20 years ago, my Ph.D. advisor “suggested” I study an obscure thesis topic: the non-linear dynamics of the Farley-Buneman Instability in the lower ionosphere. He did not realize that he was planting a seed that would grow into a career simulating plasma turbulence, tracking meteors, modeling global Magnetosphere-Ionosphere-Thermosphere coupling and trying to understand the solar atmosphere. This talk will trace how one researcher’s thesis developed many branches but never broke off from the original trunk.
