Join Winnie Yoe ’14 and Sara Trautz ’15 for a gallery talk on their installation Seen and Unseen: Picturing Race, Gender, and the Enemy in WWI Posters. Using reproductions of World War I posters, many of which are in the collection of the Hood Museum of Art, former museum interns Yoe and Trautz investigate not only what was pictured in the posters but also what (and who) was absent. These propaganda posters officially promoted the war effort, recruited troops, and raised money. By offering a closer look at the messages embedded there, Yoe and Trautz challenge us to think critically about any image related to war.
