The Project for Calligraphy and Manuscript Culture at Dartmouth College is sponsoring a multi-year student-faculty project to transcribe and translate Mao's commentary manuscripts in his stylistic calligraphy written inside the 850 volumes of China's official Twenty-four Histories, Dartmouth has a rare edition of which in the Rauner Library (http://libcat.dartmouth.edu/record=b5997877~S1). Best calligraphy usually can be found in manuscripts. It is Mao's manuscript that establishes his outstanding achievements in Chinese calligraphy and manuscript art. Prof. Chuanxi Chen of Renmin University of China (http://www.ruc.edu.cn/archives/18008) is a well established and distinguished art historian and calligrapher in China. His insights and demonstrations will provide a gateway to the calligraphy and manuscript art of Mao Zedong (1893-1976), the founder of the P.
