Objectives – Participants will be able to:

  1. Become familiar with the data supporting early palliative care
  2. Recognize when are patients are expressing prognostic awareness through hope-worry oscillation
  3. Build resilience in patients facing serious illness

Juliet Jacobsen, MD

Juliet Jacobsen received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of Chicago, where she also completed medical school. After serving for five years as a general medical officer in the Air Force, she went on to complete internal medicine residency at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and palliative medicine fellowship at MGH. She is an attending on the MGH palliative care service and Fellowship Director of the Harvard Palliative Medicine Fellowship. Her research interests focus on how fellows learn to communicate with patients about prognosis and how patients adapt to prognostic information over time, particularly in the outpatient setting.
