Bach Mass in B Minor
Composed near the end of Bach’s life, the B-minor Mass was the crowning achievement of his extraordinary musical career—spanning a wide diversity of both style and emotional state, from hope to sadness to euphoria. Unperformed until a century after Bach’s death, it has become a timeless and durable masterwork of sacred music. As Schumann noted, “We are never at an end with Bach; he seems to grow more profound the more often he is heard.”
