The Agreement reached between the English Barons and King John in 1215 has been a foundation of English liberty ever since that conclave on the fields of Runnymede.  By establishing principles of political representation, due process of law, and the immunity of the Christian Church, Magna Carta has been a source of Anglo-American constitutional and common law for 800 years.  The American Founders often championed Magna Carta against the usurpations of George III and The United States Supreme Court has cited Magna Carta in more than 100 decisions in cases involving due process, taxation, and criminal punishment.
