This international exhibition featuring works housed in the Musée du Luxembourg, Musée d’Orsay, London’s National Gallery and the Philadelphia Museum of Art is arguably the most comprehensive exploration of the Impressionists to date. It focuses on 19th-century Parisian collector Paul Durand-Ruel whose brave 1886 exhibition in New York brought this strange new work to wealthy Americans, filling galleries and keeping the genre alive against great odds. Durand-Ruel’s remarkable story is told along with that of the artists themselves including Monet, Degas, Cezanne, Renoir and Pissarro.

Presented in conjunction with the Hood Museum of Art. Introduction by Kathy Hart, the Senior Curator of Collections.
