Arctic tundra vegetation has changed dramatically over the past several decades, largely in response to accelerated warming in the northern high latitudes.  However these vegetation changes have been highly heterogeneous in space and over time, not just in magnitude of change, but in direction as well. We will focus on the use of both remote sensing information and field studies to examine the patterns and dynamics of arctic tundra vegetation, and attempt to synthesize our current understanding of the mechanisms that might be leading to heterogeneities in the observed trends.
