Dearly beloved, we are gathered here on this terribly sad day 2 get through it by celebrating the life and legacy of the visionary and singular musical force that was Prince. ‘80s flair and dancing in the aisles are encouraged.

"This is the rare pop movie that works the way a great rock & roll song does: It tells a simple, almost elemental tale and uses the music to set it aflame." Entertainment Weekly

The artist formerly-known-as, but forever remembered as, Prince died April 21 at 57. His searing concert performances, replete with stage humping, lacy outfits and prolific guitar shredding are undeniable. His idiosyncratic music drips with both virtuosity and eroticism. What better way to celebrate his otherworldly music and sartorial styling than with a screening of Prince’s debut film, specifically designed to showcase his talents?

In this semi-autobiographical tale, as The Kid (Prince) struggles for success and the amorous attentions of the ravishing Appollonia, we get a fun glimpse into the ‘80s Minneapolis scene that Prince single-handedly defined. A massive hit upon its release, this powerful classic introduced the world to the glory of "When Doves Cry," "Let's Go Crazy," and of course, "Purple Rain." D: Albert Magnoli, US, 1984, 111m
