Jazz and animation make for intriguing bedfellows in this new film about the mysterious disappearance of young Brazilian piano virtuoso Tenorio Jr.
In 1976, 35-year-old Brazilian jazz pianist Francisco Tenório, Jr. vanished after his concert in Buenos Aires. In 2010, a New Yorker music journalist (voiced by Jeff Goldblum) goes on a quest to learn what happened to Tenório, at that time one of the most brilliant instrumentalists of Brazilian music. Initially planned as a live-action documentary, directors Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal decided to hand draw their tale. The result is a captivating visual palette powered by an infectious bossa nova soundtrack—and a tribute to a creative artist who must not be forgotten.
