    Letterpress Workshop - Orientation Session

    5 pm - 9 pm
This class is an orientation session for all newcomers to learn the basics of typesetting and press work. The session will begin with a brief discussion of the history and process of Letterpress Printing. After a tour of the workshop participants will set a few lines in type. These can be a proverb, quotation, a bit of writing made up on the spot etc. We will print a group broadside of your text on a Vandercook proof press. Emphasis will be placed on the proper techniques of setting metal hand type, press work, and the selection of appropriate type faces. We will also look at the various styles of type in the shop with a discussion of basic typographical design. No previous experience is required and all materials, tools, and equipment are provided. Instructor: Sarah Smith
