John: "I remember the Dean of Freshmen Bob Strong very well and I remember Dean Strong saying, 'Gentlemen, take a look at the man on your right and the man on your left because next semester one of you will be gone.'"

Mary: "When V-12 came to Dartmouth it jammed up the town pretty heavily with wives.   The wives and the College made a plea to anyone who could rent rooms to dates and people like that to please do so and my mother started doing that and had some wonderful experiences. In fact, she made lifelong friends with the boys who had brought girls and then married the girls and kept in touch with mother. She just loved it."
