Associate Teacher - Owls

Hello, my name is Maya Lopez-Bowlin. I was born and raised in Lebanon, New Hampshire to two wonderful, Guatemalan parents. I have lived all my life in the Upper Valley, so I consider myself Guatemalan-American. I speak Spanish with my family, and always enjoy learning about new cultures, including about my own far-away Guatemala. I studied Mathematics and Spanish at Saint Michael’s College.

I started working at DCCCC in January of 2018. I got the privilege to start as a float and roamed from room to room learning everyone’s routines and teaching styles, which was more than useful when I applied to be an Associate Teacher in the Otter Room a year later. Through RVCC I gained certification and received the formal introduction to what is involved in Early Childhood Education. During the last few years, I have learned to create a fun curriculum with preschoolers in the Black Bear Room and now currently enjoy cuddles with the toddlers in the Owl Room. Nothing has humbled me more than seeing this amazing world through the eyes of these children. I am constantly learning with them as I see everything from new and different points of view.

In 2021, my husband and I were blessed to be able to buy a home in Windsor, VT. We live there with our cats, Eliot and Bella (short for Grizabella – for you musical fans out there!). My favorite days are filled with jokes, laughter, board games, and family. My busy days are filled with learning how to be a homeowner, from learning to care for a yard, to painting rooms, to hosting small get-togethers with family.

I love learning how to cook, how to decorate, learning how to entertain each age group, and especially how to remember to just have fun!
