Laboratory Safety Training
EHS offers several laboratory safety training modules, which are required by federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies. These training requirements apply to:
- Principal Investigators
- Lab Managers
- Technicians

Required Lab Safety Courses
- Laboratory Safety/Hazardous Waste Management Training: This training is mandatory for all personnel working in a teaching or research wet laboratory. It is an introductory program on laboratory safety and waste management in a biomedical, engineering, chemistry, earth science or physics lab at Dartmouth College. The course takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. Completion is required every three years.
- Biological Safety Level 2 Training (BSL2): This annual training is mandatory for all personnel working in Biological Safety Level 2 (BSL2) laboratories. This training fulfills the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standard requirement for annual training in addition to describing biosafety standards and guidelines set forth by the CDC and NIH in terms of practices and procedures and biohazardous waste handling.
- Radiation Safety Training: This annual training is mandatory for all individuals working with radioactive materials or working in a lab where radioactive materials are used. It is also required for individuals working with other sources of ionizing radiation or applying for a radiation badge.
