"In-Process" Materials: Rush Requests
"Rush" processing is available for in-process materials when a library user wants to borrow them, or when they are needed for course reserves. When the public catalog shows a note such as "1 copy being processed for [location]" the requesting user should go to a library staff member and ask to make a rush request. Library staff may use one of the following methods to request in-process items for patrons or course reserves:
- Use the In-Process webform
- Email the In-Process mailbox (Library Staff Only)
- Fill out the paper In-Process request form (available from the Library Main Office)
Remember that if the Library Catalog record says "on order" the request should go to Acquisitions Services. Consider whether Borrow Direct might be a better option for some rush requests.
Materials are usually available 48 hours after the request is received; some special materials may take longer. If special circumstances require a shorter processing time, please contact a supervisor in Cataloging and Metadata Services directly for assistance.
Digital Resources
Use the Digital Resources webform to:
- Add a new free digital resource to the Library Catalog
- Request updates to digital resources records in the Library Catalog.
- Updates include: URL corrections; resource description changes; addition of subject headings or LC Classification; general corrections; etc.
- Discard a free digital resource
Collection Management (Print Materials)
- Send materials to be Transferred, Reclassed or Relabeled to Cataloging and Metadata Services, via the Library Courier.
- If there are more than 20 titles, email Cataloging and Metadata Services to discuss a project plan.
- Email Cataloging and Metadata Services:
- For answers to questions about Library Catalog records
- To request corrections to Library Catalog records
- To withdraw or discard materials:
"Discard" refers to items that are removed voluntarily from the catalog (a decision had been made by a bibliographer to discard a particular item).
"Withdrawn" refers to items that are involuntarily removed from the catalog because the item is either missing, lost, damaged, or being replaced by a different edition or format.
- For monographs, please refer to: Withdrawal and Discard Procedures
- For serials, please use: Serials Action Request Form-Bibliographic (Word document)
