About the Book
This eBook consists of the full text, including illustrations, of the Three Monks multimedia courseware. The universal appeal of the story of the Three Monks endures even without the courseware’s audiovisual components, as the eBook extracts from the courseware, in essence, all that can be presented in words and still images. However, the reader with access to Dartmouth College library materials can also view the multimedia courseware available in the Jones Media Center HERE.
The original courseware was created focusing on, and uses as its core source material, the classic Chinese animation film Three Monks (directed by A Da and released in 1980 by Shanghai Animation Film Studio). It was intended and designed for both students of Chinese language and students of Chinese animation. The multimedia compilation of the courseware combines traditional archival research with the utilization of educational technology—representing both an in-depth study of an animated film and a Chinese language textbook with a unique cultural content.
