"I later joined a fraternity ... Pi Lambda Phi ... which was an all Jewish fraternity almost entirely but you made a [hazing] paddle for that. By that time, 1947 or so, maybe it was used once in a great while, but it had started to disappear because WW II veterans who'd pledge fraternities would not tolerate a paddle. There were some stories of ... some pledge WWII veteran simply seizing the paddle and turning it on the fraternity brother."
