"The college was absolutely wonderful to us [wives], absolutely marvelous. I mean it wasn't too long before they installed… You could cook in the kitchen and there was a refrigerator and a little washer and dryer…I remember the first night we could cook in the kitchen, afterwards we all met in the hallway just to say, 'What did you cook?' and 'How did it go?'"
