Robert Davis Brown
Robert Davis Brown, Class of 1898, was born in Richmond, Virginia on September 14, 1873. He was prepared for college in Washington, D.C. Mr. Brown attended Dartmouth College and graduated in 1898. While at the College he served as Associate Editor of The Dartmouth. After Dartmouth, Mr. Brown, known as "Bobbie" among his Dartmouth family, went to the Episcopal Theological school in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He served as a minister in parishes in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New Jersey. Mr. Brown was also the president of the Urban League of Pittsburg from 1933-1936. He was the first colored president in the history of the local League. Brown was also a member of the NAACP, the Federation of Social Agencies, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Robert D. Brown died on his way to visit a patient on March 26, 1940 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania from a heart attack. His grandson, Andrew J. Howard IV is a member of the class of 1972. |
