Further Information about Arrival / Move-In
New Student Orientation includes:
- Arrival/moving into your residence hall; you arrive and move in on the same day.
- First-Year Trips (if you choose to participate).
- Essential, required programs that will introduce you to the Dartmouth community, its curriculum, and your classmates.
- Meetings with faculty advisors and undergraduate deans before electing Fall term courses.
Unless you are participating in a pre-Orientation program or are a fall sports pre-season athlete, the date you will arrive on campus depends on whether you choose to participate in the First-Year Trip Program.
Wednesday, September 3
If you are not participating in a pre-Orientation program or pre-season athletics AND you choose to engage with First-Year Trips as part of New Student Orientation, you will arrive on September 3 to move into your residence hall. You will receive more details later, but you should be ready to begin New Student Orientation by 4:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, September 3.
- In late July, incoming students will be asked to select a move-in time on Wednesday, September 3 (if they choose to participate in a First-Year Trip). Move-in times will vary depending on your arrival day with a limited number of timeslots every 30 minutes to help reduce lines and traffic around campus. (This does not apply for students participating in a pre-Orientation program or who are a fall sport pre-season athlete.)
- Families and supporters who travel with their students should plan to leave campus by 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3. Students will be remarkably busy with and immersed in New Student Orientation programming and First-Year Trips until the first day of classes on Monday, September 15.
- Students will begin New Student Orientation on Wednesday, September 3 – including peer-led experiences with Orientation Leaders; First-Year Trips; and required Orientation programming.
Sunday, September 7
Incoming students who choose not to participate in First-Year Trips will arrive and move into their residence hall on Sunday, September 7 by 5:00 p.m. ET. They will begin New Student Orientation on Sunday, September 7 and join other students in peer-led experiences with Orientation Leaders and required New Student Orientation programs.

Important reminders:
- Arrival details for fall sports pre-season athletes and those participating in pre-Orientation programs will be communicated directly by those programs or the Athletics Department.
- Do not arrange your transportation to campus until you hear from the Athletics Department or pre-Orientation program!
- Students cannot arrive before their scheduled date, as rooms will not be ready for occupancy or drop-off of belongings. Students wishing to arrive in Hanover before their scheduled arrival date will need to arrange for off-campus accommodation.
