A member of the Standing Rock Sioux, Gillette is the first Native American to serve as deputy associate director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.
LEADING THE WAYA devoted advocate to Native American causes, Gillette led the Native American Training Institute, a non-profit social services organization. Then, as a director of Native Americans for Obama, she helped draw a record turnout of tribal voters. In her current role, her goal is to improve employment, healthcare, and education for the country's 564 tribes.
IN HER OWN WORDS"I picked Dartmouth because of its reputation for recruiting and retaining Native-American students," Gillette says of her undergraduate years here. "It was an obvious path." |
