IN HER OWN WORDS"I grew up in a culture in which we weren't supposed to question our elders and I guess my brothers and I didn't challenge each other much, either. I remember how startled I was that everyone asked questions at Dartmouth and didn't always accept my answers. I had to defend my opinions, back them up with reasons and then have those reasons examined again. It was the best environment for me to figure out who I am and gain confidence in my voice, and my hope for Dartmouth is that respectful challenging of our opinions and beliefs with the goal of reaching an understanding remains the discourse among the student body, now and always." |
