Dartmouth Driver Policy
The Dartmouth Driver Policy is intended to:
- Set standards for appropriate use of College-owned, leased and rented vehicles (or personal vehicles being used for College related business) by faculty, staff and students.
- Reduce the frequency and cost of motor vehicle accidents.
- Provide and require training, as needed.
- Minimize risk by ensuring that drivers are validly licensed and trained, and that driving histories are satisfactory.
Electric Vehicle (EV) Chargers on Campus
This policy defines the valid use of electrical charging stations located on the Dartmouth College campus and processes for acquiring, locating, and installing EV charging stations.
Parking Appeals Policy
The Parking Appeals Policy provides guidelines for the appeal of citations issued for the violation of regulations while parked on Dartmouth College property and the response to appeals by Transportation Services.
Parking Penalties
Parking penalties are issued by Transportation services; view the costs.
Parking Violations
Dartmouth Transportation Services and the Department of Safety and Security monitor parking lots, issue citations, immobilize and tow vehicles in violation of parking regulations.
Violating Dartmouth College parking regulations can result in citation, loss of parking privileges, vehicle immobilization and towing at the owner’s expense.
Permanent Loss of Parking Spaces to Construction
It is important that project planning mitigates the potential for permanent parking space loss throughout planning and building phases. However, it is understood that even after careful vetting of options, sometimes losing parking spaces may be the best option for Dartmouth.
Student Driver Policy
The Student Driver Policy provides additional requirements for student drivers to assure their safety in operating vehicles on behalf of College business.
Temporary Parking Measures During Construction
Due to limited parking resources for employees and visitors on campus, senior leadership wants to limit the impact of the loss of parking. Additionally, no matter how large or small the construction project, extensive communication to impacted parking users is required. This policy aims to create clarity for all internal project managers.
Vehicle Registration for Students
This policy is intended to safeguard vehicles on campus, to be able to contact vehicle owners in a timely basis, and to consistently apply regulations to vehicles that are parked illegally.
Vendor Parking
Vendors who park on the Dartmouth campus are required to register with Transportation Services and display a parking permit in their vehicle. All permits are issued at the discretion of Transportation Services.
Dartmouth Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Policy for Commercial Driver's License Holders
This policy sets standards for Dartmouth drivers who must have a commercial driver's license to perform duties that are considered safety-sensitive and are subject to alcohol and/or substance abuse testing as required by Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations Part 382.
Administrative Oversight of Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations
This policy assigns centralized administrative oversight of financial and reporting functions associated with EV charging stations located on the Dartmouth College campus and Dartmouth Real Estate properties to the Office of Transportation Services.
GPS Monitoring of Dartmouth Vehicles and Motorized Equipment
Campus Services vehicles are equipped with a Global Positioning System (GPS) which monitors vehicle and other motorized equipment location and operation. This policy governs access under certain circumstances to data collected from the system to promote operational efficiencies, public safety, and the safety of college property.
