Eligibility and Enrollment

  • All Benefit Eligible Dartmouth employees can choose to enroll in any of the three voluntary benefit options available.

  • Employees can cover spouses, children and stepchildren on their benefit plans.

  • Employee pays full cost of the benefit.

  • Plan guidelines do not allow Dartmouth couples to cover one another, and only one parent can cover the children.

  • Enrollment is available through the FlexOnline benefit enrollment system.

What are Voluntary Benefits?

Voluntary benefits can help with out of pocket expenses. For example, if your medical plan has a high deductible, voluntary benefits can provide additional financial protection if you have unexpected claims.  You'll receive your benefits as a lump-sum cash payment to use however you wish.  All benefits are separate from medical coverage and are 100% portable, which means coverage is yours to take with you, should you leave Dartmouth for any reason.

If you are enrolled in a Dartmouth Medical plan and experience an eligible claim, Cigna will notify you to be sure you submit your claim under the Voluntary benefits. More information on Cigna's Simple File is available here.

Note: You do not need to be enrolled in a Dartmouth medical plan to participate in the voluntary benefit plans.
