Paid Time Off (PTO)
Dartmouth PTO Policies
Paid Time Off for Salaried Employees Policy - Regular salaried staff are credited with 22 days of vacation per fiscal year (July through June).
Paid Time Off for Hourly Employees - An hourly employee uses personal time to cover days taken off due to personal reasons. Hourly employees also receive vacation time in accordance with the policy.
Volunteer Time Off - Employees may receive up to one day of paid time off in each fiscal year to perform volunteer services through eligible non-profit organizations.
Year End PTO
Please be aware that for the purposes of paid time off (personal time and vacation time) for hourly employees, the year ends on Saturday, June 29, 2024, and the new year begins on Sunday, June 30, 2024 (the beginning of the first pay period that includes July 1). Thus, any remaining vacation time that hourly employees intend to take in this year should be used by Saturday, June 29, 2024. Up to five days of unused personal time remaining in an employee's leave balance will automatically carry over into the next year.
Unused vacation time is generally not carried over from one year to the next. When department operations or other extraordinary circumstances preclude an employee from using their vacation time during a particular year, a supervisor may request a carry-over of up to a maximum of five days into the following year. Any requests to carry over vacation time must be made no later than Friday, May 17, 2024, in order for the rollover time to be reflected in the first paycheck of the new year. All requests MUST be made by and through departmental management and approved by the HR Business Partner.
New vacation and personal time balances, including any time carried over, for hourly employees will be reflected on the biweekly paycheck dated Friday, July 19, 2024.
New vacation time balances will be available for use by monthly-paid employees on Monday, July 1, 2024.
Should you have any questions about either policy, please contact Human Resources (646-3411) or your HR Business Partner.
